[Closed] GXP BB Installation Troubles

Hi,
I have a Titus El Guapo and am trying to replace my GXP BB as the old one has worn out. I have followed the instructions in the installation guide to the letter but I cannot get the cranks to butt up against the BB on the drive side, there is a 2-3mm gap. This gap does not close no matter how hard I hit the cranks or tighten up the non-drive side allan bolt on the crank arm.

I was just wondering if I was missing anything obvious? The chain or anything else on the outside isn't getting caught and stopping it going in further.

I have measured the shell and it is 73mm wide so have used no spacers as per the instructions.

Thanks,

Alex

I have the same set up. Have done a bit of googling and it seems to be normal.

Thanks. Surely it can't be designed to be like that, water must get in really easy and all the videos I have watched seem to make sure it is butted up properly.

it's supposed to be like that, the axle floats in the driveside bearing(which prevents them being pre-loaded into an early grave), and clamps the other bearing between it's step and the crank to hold it in place.

And water does get in and screw the bearings. Mine are creaking at less than 500 miles on the road, with one or two wet rides. Inherent with external BB's although some are better than others. I am swapping to a Shimano one with a sleeve. You can easily yank the bearings out of Shimano stuff. Do the same with Hope but the bearings are no better.

Mine's like that as well. Think it needs a load of grease shoving in it after a very muddy BUCS.
