Further to a recent post about an mtb parts and sti shifters i'm toying iwth a different option to try.
Gravel bike has grx shifters and 3-46 chainset, I could do wit this chainset for a different bike (another story) and replacing it with a 28-40 xt double chainset (785). It has a hope bb and i have the longer inner sleeve and 2 spacers to space it out to 73mm. The grx is 2.5mm wider than a standard road so in my mind i thought ideal it will work smoothly. Then i looked at chainline, I confess to not knowing a great deal about chainlineother than what I have just read about on line
grx chainset 46.9
xt double 48.8
anyone know if the extra will be able to be taken up with limit screws and cable tension on intial set up of the grx mech to make this work. I'm unlikely to ever use 40-11 as the bike is for steeper climbs on gravel and loaded touring, and I figure that if I had a single ring id be on 40 or 42 on teh front anyway.
thanks in advance before i start swapping bits and getting frustrated.
It’s not completely relevant but for reference, I have a 10sp road front mech working on 40-28 on the two inner rings of a mtb triple. If it carries over to 11sp I suppose it means it’s right that your main concern is chainline. I’d take a punt on it and if necessary swap a bb spacer to the non drive side to get that 2mm back
ah hadn't thought about reducing it with a spacer move , i think it is going to be worth the hassle of a play about thanks
