A bike im interested in has GRX 2 x 12. Ive not had any shimano kit since 2014 so very out of touch with things. If I wanted to change it to 1x am I restricted to only GRX derailleurs or will other 12 speed shimano derailleurs work? Its a gravel bike that will do a lot of road too so will likely keep it as a 2x setup but just want to keep my options open without having to change levers.
According to the Shimano compatibility chart the only rear mechs that work with 12 speed GRX levers are 12 speed GRX or 105.

That makes sense as they don't make any other 12 speed mechanical road stuff 🙂
