[#12651932]

Anyone seen the video, ( sorry TH no link, I'm not IT savvy enough and lazy ) on his channel, it popped up in my recommended section, unbelievably reckless dog ownership and incompetent control of the dogs, barely apologised too adding insult to injury, lucky Grumpy Mountain Bike Man kept his cool, you can freeze frame near the end and get the dog owners website and mobile number from the back of his jacket to show some support for the fellow biker who got attacked.

Copy the web address of the site you want us to look at into your post. The forum will do the rest, much easier than explaining what you are looking at…

Not sure if this'll work but shit the bed he should send that video to the police. I dont think I'd have been as calm as he is. Not saying I'd have been fighting or kicking dogs, but i'd certainly habe been shouting a bit more!

Wow that was lightening quick Tom, it's YouTuber Grumpy Mountain Bike Man, that's his channel name. Sorry thought that was clear, my bad.

That was much worse than I was expecting from the description.

I've been attacked by a dog that ran out of farm & bit my calf about 50/60 miles into a 114 mile sportive. Not a fun experience. Damaged my clothing too.

How he didn't lose his shit I don't know.

Blimey, that's someone who shouldn't be allowed to own dogs, let alone have them off the lead in a public place. Horrendous.

To be fair, maybe they don’t like e-bikers?

There was talk of adding that breed to the banned list, they are basically attack dogs that need heaps of training and exercise. They must've seen John wick 3 and thought I'll get two of those just like Halle Berry. Vital martial arts.co.uk need vital dog training.

Frightening.

I have to say, I don't think I would have had as much physical restraint when the dog actually bit him.

How did he stay so calm! That one needs police involvement.

His description on youtube is worth a read. Not the expected sensationalist bollcks you usually get from youtubers.

He definitely needs to take that to the police. Shouldn't be too difficult to trace the owners. Scary scenes.

Those poor dogs are likely to be destroyed because the owners are irresponsible ****s.

As someone who has been bitten on bike rides, out walking and once skiing (that time I had to go to a French health centre), I'm quite scared of dogs.
Please understand that there are people like me out there if you are a dog owner.

Once a dog put its head through the frame of my mtbike and bit the bottom of my shorts. The dog was on an extendable lead and the owner did and said nothing, I was stunned. The bike was held between myself and dog as protection. A horrible experience for that mtbiker in the video.

Wow. Watching it in slo-mo a few of those dogs don't even have collars, which is a legal requirement. Also explains why they couldn't get them under control. Defo report that to the police, there's a few things there for them to discuss with the owners. I'd argue that that incident is a perfect example of 'dangerously out of control'.

Mali's/Belgian Shepherds shouldn't be owned by people who have no ****ing idea what they're doing.

I've got to say, having been in a similar situation when a collie/sheepdog leapt a low wall, knocked me over and started to bite me, I was so shocked that I reacted in more or less the same way as the you-tuber, It's only later that I was really angry about what had happened.

A better option would be removal and pass them onto the Police or Military to see if they can be trained. Funny thing is there's never stories of retired working dogs attacking people, usually because their owners know how to handle them and they're very well trained.

I don't think civilians should be allowed to own these breeds until they can show the required level of competence. But then, you could easily make that argument for all breeds. 😂

Its hard not to think about what would have happened if that had been a young kid on a bike.

Reckon it was this fella? www.facebook.com/vitalmartialarts

Top hit when you Google the mobile number.

Sensei Walter and Sensei Tracey will be hopefully getting a visit from plod. If this was a young kid on a bike the outcome could have been disastrous.

Yeah, they're Malinois, there's a few articles about them being the next on the list.
Sensei Walter and Sensei Tracey definitely need a visit from the police, these guys teach little kids martial arts, hope they leave the dogs at home when they do.

Typical dog owner, causes chaos because they havent trained their dog then just walks off after the incident with no comeback.

then says that all bikers are bad and its their fault because their dogs dont like bikes.

They clearly new something was wrong as they were shouting for him to stop before the dogs even appeared.

The thing that scare me most about that video was the fear in her voice right at the beginning when she said "please stop, please stop" to the rider (or perhaps the dogs). She knew full well what was going to happen, she was aware of the risk but still chose to walk her dogs off the lead.

These are the sort of people who are responsible for livestock attacks. They know the risk but don't care.

My dog got attacked a while ago, the other dogs owners said "we usually try to walk him away from where there are other dogs." Well, not that day, they chose to walk in a busy area and take the risk. Not on.

That's the reason I lost my shit with the dog owner who's dog attacked me a few months ago. Well-used woods with dedicated/waymarked walking paths and MTB trails (Kilbean Woods in Falkirk) with adjoining housing developments. Plenty of kids use the area including my own young kids, but thankfully not at 7am when it happened.

This one needs referred to the police 100%.

Belgian Malinois.
They're amazing dogs IF done right, they're very intelligent.

There's a guy on the Peak District MTB Forum page who has one, he uses it for bikejoring (where the dog tows the bike using a special harness). He posts his videos pretty regularly but he has also said that the dog has taken thousands of hours of training.

What breed is it?

Belgian Malinois? Similar to German Sheppard's / Alsatians at a casual glance, but taller/skinnier/pointier. They haven't been 'domesticated' as pets like GSD's so are very much working line attack dogs. The best description I've heard of them is "they need working, if you're not making decisions for them and telling them what to do 24/7 then they start making their own decisions and they're rarely good ones". A lot of owners take them to attack classes in the same way spaniel owners take them to "gundog training".

They do produce very cute puppies though 🤷‍♂️

Wow that's pretty awful and agree that it should go to the police. Kudos to the fella for keeping calm as well. In the last year or so I've had dogs trying to bite me whilst on the South Downs Way outside Brighton, it weirdly it never seems to be the dog owners fault. "They don't like bikes" is the usual excuse, then don't take them on a busy public bridleway then!!

Aye, I've been on the receiving end of those fur missiles on a few occasions, thankfully with the support of a very thick protective suit! Still ended up with bruises.

Not dogs to **** around and find out with from an ownership perspective.

That's the bit that gets me every time. If the dog can't deal with bikes, don't take it where there will be bikes... it's just bloody common sense isn't it ?

In slight defense of reactive dogs, and as the former owner of one (who was never off lead in public), the number of absolute idiots who refuse to give you any space even when asked is far higher than the number of badly managed reactive dogs.

This is completely unfair. Its your ******* dog, not theirs.

Or keep it on a lead and close. I have to with my Grey, but not because she doesn't like bikes, she likes to run after quick things, and as she would bounce around like a plank there'd be an inevitable bike/dog interface.

Thankfully I have a few good dog parks nearby to let her off for her 5 minutes of zoomies!

yep. Obviously this is hugely stereotypical, but IME 100% of "freestyle" karate/kickboxing club owners are nobs with seething pent-up-rage and short man syndrome, and just live for the opportunity of giving someone a "deserved" "slap".

This is completely unfair. Its your ******* dog, not theirs.
exactly this. Having a dog (any dog) doesn't give you rights, it gives you responsibilities.

Is this your way of saying that you used to have a dog that you knew shouldn’t have been taken out in public?

If you can't respect peoples boundaries and personal space you shouldn't be outside either.

We had to give him up after having to come home from work to rescue the OH from the field* where some asshole of a woman was going mental at her for having an "out of control dog". Of course he's "out of control", you're stood there screaming and pointing at him and his owner, how the f did you except that to escalate? I wanted to punch her, the dog (and OH) was fing traumatized.

Rant over, some people are assholes, some dogs are assholes, occasionally you get one owning the other and it's a recipe for disaster like that video.

*it tapers to a corner so if you go in and someone follows you at some point you're going to cross paths on the way back. Unless you, know, you pay the slightest attention to the instruction to give the dog a bare minimum of space. You wouldn't walk upto a stranger in the pub, look him in the eyes and start stroking his hair and not expect to get a slap, don't try it with dogs.
