Hi,
Needing to replace bearings in a frame. Am I better to use grease or anti-seize on the outside of the bearing?
Ta
From an engineer point of view anti seize mate very thin film of it though. No doubt someone come along in a couple posts and disagree lol
If you have anti-seize then use it. If not then use grease.
But I would avoid copper slip as I don't trust it on aluminium or carbon fibre frames. I use shimano (ceramic based) or PTFE fortified grease as it adds a bit of structure to the grease. I ditched copper slip on car brakes due to problems it can cause and now just use it on bolts (use Ceratec or the Pagid version)
Do you have a guide from the manufacturer? In typical STW fashion can I throw threadlock in to the ring? ๐ณ It depends on the manufacturer but some recommend this over grease (older Santa Cruz frames for example). Anti-seize vs grease? If choosing between these then grease will do just fine if you have it to hand.
you can use bearing lock/fit/retainer in some situations which is pretty much thread lock but with more gap filling normally. You don't want anything too strong if locking them in.
