I love the Kona

If you're tall and interested in a second-hand 2016 (blue) one, let me know 😉

Blimey - that Slate 105 is showing as £1012.50 for me! (1579 for the Ultegra)
That's pretty unbelievable.
Still not sure it's the bike for me though. I'm going to have to resist the impulse buy. Shame I hadn't already had a test ride.

that looks like an ex vat price to me? you might not get it all the way through the checkout at that

@jonnyboi - total bargain for the spec and an interesting one bike solution. The one L they had has been snapped up so move quickly for the others at that price.

What is the code for 10% off?

The 105 gearing is very roadie not that gravel-like 52/36 and a 11-28 cassette

PSA - If anyone wants a Slate and missed out on these then give Phil at Epic Cycles in Ludlow a call as I've just chatted with him and they have various sizes at very competitive prices 01584 879245.

OP - have you considered the Whyte Glencoe?
It might not be perfect for your needs but it's very pretty

It's very nice looking, but the Friston seems to pack more bang for the buck.

Jumped on a Slate @ Wheelbase and was pleasantly surprised been sitting on a bike to work voucher since April so handed it over hopefully picking up Thursday with the Mavic wheels as apparently Cannonade have been putting other rims on that are not tubeless friendly! £1350

Postierich - nice pic! I'd certainly buy from my LBS if I could for a number of reasons but for anyone who can't get a Slate locally then I think Epic Cycles might beat that price ^^^. I've no connection but won't mention them on the thread again!

I have heard of pretty high failure rate of the forks but not specific to that fork so buying from your local lbs might be a good idea as its a send away for any repairs apparantly!

Interesting but sure the customer service will be good. I decided against it due to the more aggressive position but no doubt it's a fun concept especially if you have lots of adventure riding that's accessible. Think the Slate is being withdrawn from the UK market but still supplied in other markets abroad.

Is that true? If so that's a shame as this one looks nice

Whats the problem with the fork? I have an XL on order and I'm tempted to cancel it.

Hi postierich
Got my cannondale slate cx1 from wheelbase in June, absolutely loving it. Running tubeless schwalbe g ones and every time i ride it makes me smile

Sounds like we have an exclusive club as well if cannondale have stopped U.K. sales

So I'm told, withdrawn from the UK to enable them to focus on improving supply of their core market bikes. The Slate is quite niche and presumably better suited to the riding in countries like Spain so get them Slate bargains while you can!

There is a nice cheap highly competent gravel bike available from On-One.

Brew it up to your own spec. Mine is slapped together from whatever parts are spare.

Ride it anywhere.

In tourer mode doing a 120 mile loop around Wester Ross and crossing a few mountain ranges on a day trip on Tuesday.

Usually single speed, but 3 speed hub for widening its scope. Normal gear is road singlespeed inches, top is my track bike inches, and bottom is my mtb inches. So it can go anywhere.

Proof you don't need a big budget to have a highly competent bike. There's nothing on the bike that is expensive, but there's nothing on it that is crap either or short life, and the biggest budget item is the Brooks saddle.

Pompinos are ace. 🙂

That's cool that, epicyclio. What's the bag on the back and how's it attached?

It's a Carradice saddle bag and it's attached through the loops on the back of the saddle.

Guys I'm bumping this as I'm being very indecisive. Looking good to replace my aging Dr dew with something.
Want 1x11 sram, prefer bolt through wheels, light-ish and off road capable. Not bothered about all the bike packing type stuff. Just one or two hours being round local roads, trails, woods etc.

Currently torn between whyte Friston and custom building a Cotic Escapade. Cotic can't do a competitive Sram build off the peg unfortunately.

Did fancy a Camino Al but think it's a bit more aimed at sedate, longer plodding rides. I might do the occasional cx race... £1000-£1400ish. Help!

Friston sounds like just what you're after. Done a few 20-30 mile rides on mine now on a mix of road, dirt paths and bumpy tracks and loving it!

40c tyres give a lot of comfort and handles well off road bit zips along nicely on the hard stuff. Double Tap 1x11 takes a bit of getting used to if coming from Shimano but I'm getting the hang of it!

I'd also say Friston (because I want one) or maybe look at the NS Rag+ as it looks so right

I just bought a Whyte Gisburn, £500 off RRP at Cycle Surgery. I was looking at several cross and gravel bikes but once I saw the price drop on the Gisburn it was a no brainer.

I have no intention to race the bike, or use it as a commuter. This bike is for fun up on the hills of the Tweed Valley 🙂

This would be my choice, have the Al version and love it, it is a very fast road bike that is perfectly competent off road

Ooh that Orro is nice and comes in orange, the best colour for bikes.
