Heading for a few days in March to Gran Canaria- Been searching like mad to get some MTB advice if anyone has any?!?

Staying in Puerto Morgan so have checked out freemotion, etc for rental but are there good routes / guided outings from there? Freemotion have what look to be pretty easy going stuff -is that true? They look decent though. Id prefer a bit of proper XC / Trail / Enduro - doesnt really matter what as long as its not beginner type stuff.

Plenty of road trips so think Ill rent a lycrabike for a day too and head up pico de las nieves - looks like great scenery and a beautiful place. Will probably get 1 day MTB and 1 day skinnybike

Trying also to minimise wife impacts so looking to start early in the day 🙂

Thanks

Haven't cycled there and don't know about the mountain biking, but the road climbs up from Mogan valley looked excellent...unfortunately in the car, it's o my list to go back with the bike some time.

I stayed near Puerto Mogan a few yrs ago. The road route to the top of the island from that area was great in the car. I would of liked to cycle it but didn't have a bike. I saw plenty of road cyclists riding up and along the hilly coastal roads.
There were some footpath trails in the area also up the valleys, not sure about the legalities of riding them but i'm sure the hire shops will be able to advise.

We stayed at the Radisson in Peurto De Morgan last year for 12 days - some excellent riding, hired a hard tail.
Everywhere is a good climb, a good ride is up the GC605 to th etop around 3000m from there you follow your nose up which is single track on the right for another 600 vertical mts then it's technical single track back to Morgan and then down a very steep descent/bike hike.
There's a decent circular route from GC200, but unfortunatley a big gate has closed the road off at Peurto de Morgan.
Oh a beware of clowns pedalling timeshare scams in the town centre !!

I’ve done a couple of the free motion rides. They were both pretty good, well organised and the guides were good. Not complete beginner rides but equally they weren’t really taxing either. They obviously get a mix of abilities and so have to allow for that in the routes they pick.

I definitely enjoyed both rides but I’m not sure I’d bother doing them again.

Thanks folks, appreciate it.

Definitely doing that road ride up the 605 from Mogan posiwev. How do you get to the mtb side of it? Get a lift to the top and descend on singletrack down?It sounds good.

No I rode up - (the road strangely had a no cycling sign on it) and either did a loop at the top and then back down the road and looped back off road, I'm not particularly into road riding, butthe roads and scenery are amazing

That must have been a tight slog up that road on the mtb!

In November I hired a bike from Freemotion and rode from Arinaga to the Pico de los Nieves up the canyon, then down the Guyadeque trail (it's on Trailforks).

Hard work but nice.

"Freemotion have what look to be pretty easy going stuff -is that true?"

I worked for them a few years back. Unless they have seriously revamped their programme then the answer would be yes, with the exception of the North Tour. That was a little more interesting and technical.

That pic is where we used to ride. Fantastic trail.... Floating over the lava stones (like the stuff they put in plant pots) and then hammering over the terraces.
Never took clients there.
