Simple really. I have a link to GPX file (below). I want to get this on my garmin 800.

It won't give me an option to 'save as' a GPX file.

http://agybr.eventdatasystems.net/media/517/AG-LONG-01.gpx

Any help appreciated.

I've just clicked your link and it downloaded straight to my phone!
If it's the file that won't work though, try converting in Gpsies.com or similar.

Nope, tried it on my phone.

Can anybody talk me through the steps of getting it onto an 800?

Imagine I have the IQ of a toddler...

Can you not even view the file? If you can, just copy and paste it, save it with .gpx on the end and you have your GPX.
Not sure on copying to the 800 as I have an older model. I think it will just be a case of drag and drop into the correct folder on the 800.

That's the problem, when I go into the link and click save as, it doesn't give GPX as an option

Try loading the gpx to http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php then save route and tick to GPS unit with the 800 plugged in

Create a new notepad file, copy the text into that and rename with .gpx at the end of whatever you call it.

I've just downloaded it as a GPX file, opened in Memory Maps, is it the Tour Route Stage 1 and Addleshaw route long? If so, Clicky this is in GPX format. Just save it

Sam, is there any danger you could do the same clicky thing for the medium route (68 miles) http://agybr.eventdatasystems.net/media/520/AG-MED-01.gpx

I have tried, but turns out I've been blacklisted by the GPS gods.

I've got basecamp.

The problem I'm having is when I click on the file it just displays a HTML page with all the code on. I'm not able to save it in a GPX format.

I'm usually ok with garmin stuff, but this just doesn't work for me! ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Right-click the link to the .gpx, then select the option to 'Save link as..'

Then you probably need to fix your file association for .gpx files to open with basecamp

It comes up as 'Save Target as...' and then only let's me chose XML.

Basecamp won't open the XML file, and renaming it doesn't work either.

Internet Exploder?

Once you have clicked 'Save target as..', click in the 'Save as type box' then change it to 'all files'. Rename the file to have a .gpx extension instead of a .xml and save it.

Nope tried that. It won't load up to basemaps (just freezes on the 'import data' box) and when I try and use a web based program (e.g. bike hike) I get the following message:

XML error: XML_ERR_NAME_REQUIRED at line 1.

This is after I've changed the extension to .gpx.

Works fine for me. Download and then upload to bikehike.

It may be that the file you are trying to upload is corrupt. I would re-download it and try again.

Out of ideas after that, sorry.

Thanks for your patience torsonalake.

Is there a way you can share the bikehike link?

Don't worry if not, thanks again.

Do you have a browser other than IE? That should work.
