Can anyone tell me what the Gore Alp X Zip Off Jacket is like? Have had a Phantom Jacket which is fantastic - best suited to dry / light drizzle.

I am particularly interested to know if the Alp X is as warm in winter and if the water resistance remains after a few washes.

Any other comments would be gratefully received.

Cheers

James

I've been using one for a few years as a commuting jacket. The water resistance is good enough to see off decently heavy drizzle, etc - I rarely resort to the full waterproof jacket I carry in my bag. I've reproofed it using the wash-in Grangers stuff a couple of times and it still works well

I find it fairly warm (although I've not tried a Phantom so have no comparison to that). I've commuting through the worst of winter with just a LS merino base layer and a pair of air warmers underneath it and been fine. Removing the arms is very useful as my commute home involves a BIG climb, so less clothing required.

Best item of clothing I've bought this year. Very versatile and surprisingly waterproof and warm.

Thanks very much. Just invested in some Gore Windstopper bibs - Oxygen SO. The Alp X will make an excellent match.
