i bought mine from amazon - one of the marketplace sellers had it for £220, rather than the £300 that everywhere else was selling it for.

Got mine from Jenson for 140 quid....mate picked it up while working in the states, but even if sent it would have been less than 200.

The bike chain were the cheapest for me. www.thebikechain.com I think. People who've been on holiday with us, or the white room get a discount which makes it even cheaper. There might even be a singletrack discount I think?

By helmet mounting kit do you mean a sticky pad? Or do you mean the strap.
Most people just permanently apply a sticky pad to the helmet. In which case, the motorsports pack is only £160 on amazon.

But if it was me, I'd get a Hero 2 from America, or Digigood, or some other import place.

Oh - and a chest strap looks better for biking imo.

hero2 from digigood came in 2 days... no complaints here 🙂

Don't forget to buy an SD card, as you don't get one with it.

Got a Hero2 Outdoor Edition as a "leaving" present from my colleagues at work. The package came with some sticky pads and also an accessories for mounting on a vented helmet.
See the GoPro website for all that comes with the camera:

Well impressed with the camera and footage when playing about with it.
+1 SD card

Same as Alfabus, Ordered Sunday from Digigood and receieved Thursday.

I also took advantage of the Chesty mount from Pcworld for £26 which is pretty good. Think the price has gone back up again but I have noticed it fluctuate so maybe worth checking now and again.

What's the difference between the hero 1 and 2? Is it noticable in actual use?

Jury and cash flow still out for me as far as buying a Go Pro or similar is concerned. However, I have two mates I ride with who have Go Pros. Both seem to get much better results with chest mount as opposed to helmet mount.

Anyone know how the Swann Freestyle compares to the GoPro?

Local camera shop has just got some in. Reckons it's similar in performance, but comes with more as standard - including a detachable view screen and remote control.

Will drop you all a mail - just for ref, it's not the 'new' Hero2, it's the one in the link below:

Just to add, I can get the Hero2's, but prices are around the £230/£240 mark again UK supplied.

Regarding what's best. For most of us who don't want to spend 2 days editing 20 minutes of footage, I think the Hero 1 1080HD is more than enough.

Bear in mind all the demo stuff you see will be all pro sports people, with some very good people editing after with some very expensive, and powerfull software with little regard for file size.

Most of the stuff you see on Youtube/Vimeo is edited badly and compressed a horrible amount so it doesn't take 3 days up upload a video.

More resolution/field of view options, better low light performance, sharper lens - unless you are a 'power user' I don't think it's going to make a huge difference TBH.

Just been watching side-by-side videos on youtube.
Surprisingly little difference.
The only place I could find much of a difference was in streetlamps - the white balance was correct on the Hero2 and rubbishly yellow on the 1.
Also better in low light generally, although I was expecting an improvement in shadow detail in mixed scenes (in sunny woods for example), but couldn't see it.

Often the 2 looks less sharp. I have no ideas which particular factor is doing this. Some people mention software stabilization, but I can't see that on the GoPro specs.

<diclaimer> This is all based off 4 side-by-side home made youtube videos</disclaimer>

Any opinions on the Dogcam Bullet?

Seems considerably cheaper than the GoPros and the bullet shape looks a lot neater mounted on a helmet.

Not as wide angle Graham - worth looking on YouTube to see if the field of view bothers you.

How wide is the go pro and are any of the options so wide that they look horrid with distortion to view?

I got mine from here. Looks to be about the cheapest UK seller as far as I could see on the 1080 HD Helmet Hero and cheaper than the Amazon price above.

http://www.singletrackbikes.co.uk/m11b0s468p9/GOPRO_HD_HERO_camera_with_Helmet_mount_kit_and_accessories

The 960 is also amazing value for money because you are restricted with what modes you can use on the 1080 anyway.

eh - the amazon price is £160
The helmet vent strap is £16
Over-helmet strap £12

Much cheaper than the singletrackbikes prices surely!

how does the contour hd compare

I've got some raw files from the Mega last year on my laptop from my mates Contour HD. Compared to the raw files of the GoPro (both filmed in best settings) it's noticably worse on playback. The fringe of the screen gets horribly bitty on the open fast, rocky sections.
