Heading there in march & have an afternoon spare. Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

Well there a good few hills surrounding Phoenix. I'd check out the local bike shops to see if they hire/guide. Which reminds me that I'm visiting our lab in Phoenix in March and have a afternoon spare! Let me know you get on.
