I am trying to find which brake cabling to use for full length outers for v brakes. I tried this with some basic avid cables but the braking was very stiff so hopefully there is something better.

Appreciate if anyone can offer any advice thanks!

Unless you've got a really tortuous routing, i've not really found any problem with standard cable from Clarks or Shimano for full length runs.It may be worth checking how clean the ends have been cut, brake outer has a habit of folding inwards when being cut, or leaving a bit of a tang that drags on the inner cable.

From my LBS days it really asn't worth buying anything that wasn't shimano. Things may have changed but I suspect not.

The more cable you can leave bare the better. Using gear inners helps too.

I've been using aluminium tubing as an outer with good results (from B&Q).

Makes it possible to have good braking even with flexy road levers.

Surely putting a steel inner cable in an aluminium outter is asking for disaster unless it's kept well lubed
