You tried emailing GoPro?

Mine should be here in the next couple of days.

Nowhere near London though. Thank god. 😉

Instructions look quite good to me.

Also you might get some help on the MTBR Video forum.

There's reports on there of them not working with some SD cards.

I got myself a SD card, but its only a '2' rather than a minimum of 4 (as reconmended). Do you think this matters really? Also, have you got any suggestions for cheap or free editing software, to use when you get yours to work 😉

Grantway, speak to Gopro, I agree their manuals are pish but the product's great, and they're pretty good at handling questions. The camera's been intesting for ages, I know they had prototypes out in daily use way back, so it's not likely to be a lack of testing.

(the alternative for single-box HD is the Contour, and Vholdr really do have a history of launching incomplete products, the first Contour was effectively a beta test 👿 They really did nothing to redeem themselves after that, they just crapped on their early customers and moved on)

With the video mode thing, that's exactly what my old Helmet Hero does if the battery's low, any danger it's just that?

Thanks Northwind I have emailed and await reply
Just doing my head in
first one froze and failed to work.

Not the Battery Northwind I had given it a full charge.

Any idea how this delayed photo taking whilst
video in works?
Regarding the Contour they did say the first one was bad
and that they did iron out the problems.

Wiggle are flogging the first Contour HD for £ 225.00p
which is good money but the Go Pro HD is more a flexible
product.

Blackflag I have tried that but no joy.
Had got it to video but then went back to
taking pictures!

Regarding the class rating this is important to get no
less than a four has it keeps up and captures the speed
of information coming in.

hmmmm... okay, this could be a good test for how someone who's completly IT illiterate gets on with Gopro. I've been sitting here for a few hours merrily charging it up through the usb. ...and realised I hadn't put the bloody battery in. So no luck so far, but am taking it out tomorrow for a test and I can edit it through Vista I'll try adn post something up. Looking forward to it, although at the speed I ride it'll look like I'm using the slo mo setting the whole time!

Right mines just been delivered and i've had a quick play with it.

All seem quite straight forward to set up and everything seems to work.

Oh apart from the fact that I can't import the files for editing onto Windows movie maker. Not sure if that's me being a cock/movie maker not being able to cope with the file/my coal powered PC?

Anyone that can help me out with this bit?

Grantway.
I can't see anywhere that says you can take pictures when it's in video mode.
You have to select if you want it in photo/triple shot photo/video/10 second timer mode. No where does it say you can select two modes at once.

Sketti, I had the same issues with importing the MGEG4 files into windows movie maker. You have to convert them. I'm using an 'ahem' version of AVS Video converter. Gives you the option of converting to various files types that you can import. Works a treat but is fairly slow (i'm converting a 16 minute 720p file atm and it's got almost 2 hours to go). The quality is top notch though.

I experimented with smaller files to get the best quality. Settings 3-5 are best on the cam (with setting 3 - 60fps great for slo-mo stuff) Setting 4 gives a greater field of vision (4:3) but setting 5 is my mode of choice (16:9 widescreen @ 720p).

I found these movie maker settings work pretty good when publishing:-

Select 'more settings' and scroll down to 'Windows Media HD 720p (PAL)(5.9Mbps) for best results. The option above (3.0 widescreen) works pretty good too, but you loose a little quality.

I'm on the lookout for alternative video editing software as moviemaker is ok for free, but i'm sure you can get better results with the right software.

Here's a wee test video I made the other day using GoPro setting 4

Cheers for that. 😀

Can you tell me where you got your "ahem" version from? 😉

My email's in my profile if you'd prefer to do it that way.

No bother.

Torrents are your friend. Search for AVS converter Crack. Version 6.something is the latest one.

One last question.

In the box along with all the mounting brackets there's an orange rubber bit with a loop on one end and a u shaped piece on the other.
Any idea what that's for?

Right just uploaded this onto Vimeo without any editing and the quality isn't as good as I hoped it might be. Anyone tell me what settings to use to get it a bit betterer?
(everything is set as standard on the GoPro)

Don't know fella. It's not too bad, but should be better. Was it the quicktime MGEG4 file you uploaded straight from the camera? Could be a compression issue if that's the case. I'm no expert here, just firing out a few buzz words....

BTW, some (if not all info) in my earlier post was tosh. Setting 5 is 1080p widescreen and will give the best results coupled with similar settings (1080p) importing into AVS and publishing in Moviemaker. Sure it's all part of the curve, right? 🙂

Euro, all the sites I've found for 'ahem' are ones where you need to pay to subscribe - does that sound right? I've found "any video converter" which seems to do the same job.

Had a first go today in some lowlight stuff and its bloody awesome!

Yep it was straight from the camera.

I'll try again after converting it with AVS and see what happens.

Mmm.

Just converted it on AVS and it doesn't look any better.

heres my stab at it having used Total Video Converter from cnet - surprisingly user friendly and pretty safe to use apparently. The Most of the riding was really low light stuff so I'm amazed how well it came out. Think I had the camera on setting 4 but it converted at about 20 fps on the converter. Vista Movie Maker seems pretty good as well.

bintangman.

You need to change the setting on Vimeo from private to public so that we can see the clip.

BTW after starting a thread on MTBR Video forum I was advised to use Youtube instead of Vimeo.

The quality does seem a bit better.

Oh and the orange rubber bit that comes in the box pushes into the back of the QR bracket to stop it rattling in an annoying way.

You need to try this though to stop the rattling.

Yep mine works in very low light. Rode home from the pub in the dark with it on.

What SD card are you using?

Trying it out on a new Maxwell MAXimum 4gb rated class 4

Also when I programed the camera to start up on video mode
Every time i started the camera up it always started up on
the Self timer mode
Does the same happen to you ?

No it starts up on video mode.

You shouldn't have needed to change the startup setting as video is the default setting.

Maybe try a Kingston sdhc card in there as there have been reports of not all cards working with it.

I've got a Lexar from Jessops - 8gb and class 4. Bougght a new hard drive for the computer and pretty staggering that it will only take about 6 loads from the card!

It worked in woods at 4pm - if I was using a DSLR it would be down to a pretty slow shutter speed, so I was very impressed.

Grantway - it started up in the self timer mode and needed to toggle along to video mode. I then just left it on.

Going to try and get out this afternoon to try out the damping thing.

Still amazed at what they can fit into such a small piece of kit (hope it works soon for you though, Grantway).

Try connecting it to your TV and it should give a clear uninterupted
playback.

Oh and mine came from CRC with 10% off.
