Looking for a wheel builder in the Glasgow area, any recommendations?

I've got custom wheels from Merlin or CRC in the past, but I'm looking to give some work to a LBS; Dales, Alpines et al. Had bikes serviced by formentioned but doen't know how they are for wheel builds.

ta much for any help.

Willie Bain in the south side. Not had a wheel built by him but had some trued. He looks like he'd be good at building wheels though, a very intense guy.

Another vote for Big Al at Wheelcraft - in Clachan of Campsie, just north of Mingavie.

Or wheels by Dave from Alpine Bikes in Gt Western Road...

I live on the isle of wight now and I still haven't found better than Big Als.

Oh the happy hours sat around drinking tea and talking cr@p in the shop / loft there, sigh.....

Big Al or Dave at Alpine. I remember asking Al if some rim, can't remember what it was, would build into a strong but reasonably light wheel, "ah, you'll be wanting the spaghetti rim then" cheeky sod!

Big Al. Just spare some time to be amazed and to not get an answer immediately when you go in.

Big Als wheels are really nice.

Carl at Bikelove made a good job of truing some (non big al) wheels.

Wheelcraft for wheels.

Glasgow Cycles/Craig McMartin Cycles/Freeflow Bikes are good guys to deal with- Neil is very helpful, has helped me remedy two Commencal issues!

Had 2 excellent sets of wheels built by Carl in Bikelove, one of them's 3 years old now, nuff said, definitely gets my vote!

Al's wheels are meant to be great as well, and if it's the "Dave" I think that works at Alpine I'm sure he'd do a top job as well. Can't really go wrong with any of the above...

Not that Big Al and Carl aren't good but I used Glasgow Cycles last time and found them helpfull to the extreme. Built me a nice rear wheel that's still doing OK and were great to deal with and quick.

I like giving business to willy bain...he is a true obsessive and does things for a very fair price. The shop is a little tardis and he takes pride in what he does.

Big Al has licked more rims into shape than a seasoned p0rnstar and his prices are great. You also get good coffee and can spend hours looking through the aladdins cave that he resides in
someone up there ^ advised setting aside an hour, i'd say more like four if its a while u wait job....

"I don't have a car to get oot to the campsies".......this may sound crazy but you could always cycle! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

X85 Bus from Buchanan Street Station takes you to Al's door. If you live in Glasgow, you owe it to yourself to go there at least once
