[#886162]

Had a good time around the new trails today.
A massive improvement on the original track. Well done those that were involved.
Bottled the slab, wosent that keen going down the side of it.(bits of bike and body parts all over the place)
I bet the switchbacks are a tad hairy when wet.

Was there yesterday in the sunshine. Great little trail centre and the Big Dipper was dry for the 1st time when I have been there... much fun.

The slab is ok, its just psychological... easy when your on it.

Its all free.
Dont expect it to be a massive area. There's no visitor centre or anything like that.
Pub and cafe at Tosside.

It's open anytime , no car park/useage cost , as for tom tom dunno but it's a couple of miles out of the village of Gisburn on the A682 heading towards the A65.

Have a look on google.

Anyone planning to ride here on Saturday. I'm going, but I'm going solo at the moment, so if anyone wants to meet up, that would be great.

There are bike wash facilities at the pub. And beer and a cafe and toilets.

Had a go on the new trails on Sunday. Smashing. Been visiting Gisburn for something like 18 years and this was the first time I've felt enthused enough to go out again on a second loop (admittedly after coffee and bacon butty)!

The guy in the food trailer (weekends only) was very chatty and made decent brews with a proper coffee machine. Pub at Tosside always does good food and beer and very family friendly.

Finally someone has started to do the place justice! - especially Whelpstone Crag which was always the nicest but most under-used bit (apart from a few cheeky trails). A big thank you to all the volunteers and contractors. Can't wait for the next phases to get built (promise to look out for dig day info).

Perfect for singlespeed and the slab is far easier / much more grippy than you imagine. They have also been quite clever with the lower loops - work well with the existing tracks to give a bit more interest for kids, avoiding a few bits of fire road that my boys always whinge on.

I think most weekends there is a mobile cafe at the main car park although not sure sausage and bacon butties are good for your figure ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Next dig day is the 11th October and we're starting a new section that should include some optional woodwork. They are actually scaling back the volunteer days from once a fortnight to once a month. However they have said we can arrange to go up and work unsupervised ๐Ÿ˜ฏ if we can organise ourselves. Maybe time for a friends of Gisburn or Singletraction type setup?

Yeah, I wouldn't say no, depends how many more people are interrested really. Monthly seems a long time between digs. I understand where Martin's coming from, it's his day job as well. Terry might be interrested, he makes most of the dig days. Was going to leave it to the 11th and discuss in person with Martin (and hopefully we'll have some direction on the next section as well) and also gauge other people's willingness to pitch in.

Hi Jon, I finally got round to re-registering... ๐Ÿ™„

I'd certainly be up for doing extra days - talking to Martin on the last session, he reckoned we'd be fine as long as "somebody who knew what they were doing" was there to keep an eye on things. ๐Ÿ˜†

Anyway, I'll probably be away on the 11th, but should see you in November (or maybe even before if you do sort something out with Martin).

Hope your little lad's doing OK now.

I did Gisburn on Monday. The cafe /pub at Tosside is shut on Mondays.
Some wonderful trails, really good and I must say some naff bits.
All dry but a very slippery section on the northern part of the 8 after big dipper
Do the south part of the figure 8 first.
And the sign-age is still not done.

Jon/Tony maybe we should try and circulate peoples emails of interested parties, like you say, Terry might be interested aswell. I won't be at the digs on the new official Sundays of each month, as I have another commitment on those days. Alternative dates I would be interested in tho.

Aye, that's always an option. Would probably work OK as long as we keep our list away from the other Martin!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Edited to add: There is always the Facebook group, but I refuse to join on the grounds of being too old for that kind of malarkey. 8)

Sounds good, should get hold of Martin Colledge's list as well (assume he has a list of those who've actually turned up and written their emails on register sheet). Might be worth getting hold of Mr Charlesworth email list as well if he'll let us have it so we can put some pressure on those who haven't turned up despite registering. Need a core of 10 or so to make it work although I don't mind working on my own or with one or two keen others. Don't mind working longer days either, particularly if we're doing less strenuous stuff like building woodwork. I'm quite keen to speak to Martin face to face and find out precisely what he's got planned for the next section before arranging anything. Might email him directly though if I can find his email. Paul, I've got your email, Tony if you want to give me your email address mine's in my profile.

Jon

Heh heh, I think Mr Charlesworth has about three different lists, which is why things get a bit confused at times! ๐Ÿ˜€

As for numbers, there were only four of us at the last dig day (myself, Scott and Bill, plus Martin), but we worked on for an extra hour and pretty much finished the section (though the berm is a wee bit tight after the drop, so it'll probably need re-engineering!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ).

[IMG] [/IMG]

I personally wouldn't object to working on as long as it's light enough to see what we're doing (and it's OK with Martin, of course, after all it's his forest so I suppose he's the Responsible Adult).

Oh, and my email's in my profile too.

Indeed, though I for one won't ever be riding that particular drop! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

And yeah, Scott did well to turn up after only 4 (or was it 3?) hours kip the night before. As for Terry, his Bongo's not been well, apparently. ๐Ÿ™

Went today for the first time, very good one word to describe it...BERMTASTIC !!!

Loved the "big dipper" section had to do it twice, felt like i was at Alton Towers, 20 foot berm WTF!! Felt I was going to just fall over right at the top of em!!

Def going again, good work to all who helped build the trails, cheers chaps ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜†

weather wasn't exactly ideal though this morning!

If there was four of you, then i was one of the two riders that followed you down the berms (twice)!

pstokes99 that was us, not sure if we rode the "slab" did all the red and black route and some of the blue route as well.

Weather was a bit grim but you just have to get on with it as you never get out and ride otherwise. ๐Ÿ˜•

The slab is an optional bit off to the right with some tricky climbing to get to it - you would probably know if you'd done it.

You didn't do the slab (neither did we) - we were stading looking up at it the first time you passed us.

I have no doubt you'd have done it, but with the wind yesterday I didn't like the look of it so much (done it once before though).

I just approach it really slow and then let it go, there's no skill involved. It's over before you've had chance to scream. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Definitely don't try and brake on it imo, much more likely to slide and hurt yourself. Also you can get up a nice bit of speed to go into the next little jump/berm section.
