Steady build up. Road or MTB will do. Build gradually

Just take it easy - short and often

You must be well chuffed to be back on your bike ๐Ÿ™‚

It's been 9 months for me, ton.

I've just started commuting on my bike again, which I have managed to do almost everyday for the last number of weeks. Psychologically, it just makes me feel like I'm moving again, and so has the best possible effect.

Within the next few weeks, I plan on adding more.

Waayhaay

Reading the thread title was like looking at the blue bells just starting to come out.....not in a gay way though.

It ain't easy starting over again, lets not try and make out it is, just good on you for sticking with it.

From recent personal experience... just go out and enjoy riding a bike. You'll pretty much know what you want to do on the next ride or the next few rides. Fitness will come along with that.

Enjoy that beer too.

Quickest way IMO is to do a daily commute on the bike. Take it steady for the first couple of weeks so you dont pull anything or develop any tendonitis.
In the evenings/weekends just go play off road or jump off kerbs, bunnyhop logs, try wheelies, manuals and all the other handling skills that may be rusty.
Just enjoy the thrill of being back on the bike and enjoy your beer ๐Ÿ˜€

For me its been Steady and regular rides I had a few months off the bike and could at best do 7 or so off road miles, now back up to being able to do longer rides, just by slowly building the miles, some jogging and little gym, probably a mix of all three times a week for 2months has paid dividends.

Suppose it depends why you've been off. Not been here long so maybe I've missed something...

I've found after being smashed to smithereens in a RTA(just wanted to type that word) I've found gradually building up targets with swimming first before getting on the canal bank (building up targets) then getting back to the rougher stuff worked well for me. Boring as, having to swim round people in our local pee filled pool then having dogs trying to pull me in the canal but jobs a good un so far..

Frames will be for sale on classified soon then everyone. Ton's back on his bike!

Good to know you're riding again mate.

any type of riding is good riding. Road is probably easier on the body IMO though.

I've started going to a circuit training session at the local boxing club, discovered muscles I didn't know existed, good fun and a bleedin good work out, started at 16stn9 now down to 15stn, great conditioning, felt a complete lumox first time I tried skipping, was wrecked after just a couple of minutes! Loving it now, never thought it would be my thing, but I think it's great,
PJ.

Ton โ— โ“ โ“ โ“ ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Pardon me for asking.... but have i missed something โ“

Im guessing youve had issues of some kind โ“

FWIW...Long slow steady road miles will give a good base to work from.

Hope this helps, and its good to hear that youve recovered.....

Woop Woop - great news Ton.

Though it seems odd giving fitness advice to an ex-rugby player and man who admits he's ridden a bike every day of his adult life, I reckon....

...Saddle up with no particular destination in mind and ride at the slowest speed you can without falling over. That way everyone will be able to see your s**t-eating grin at being back on a bike...!

Glad you're soon to be back!

I'd say a bit of both, road riding will probably get your base fitness up, but getting off the road will let you have some more fun, and will probably be good for getting the power and what not back in your legs!
