Hi,
Looking to buy a hardtail and get back into MTBing.
Came across the Genesis Tarn 20 2019 which Edinburgh Cycles have on close-out at £1200.
A bit more than my max budget, but looks like a great spec for the money - steel frame, Shimano SLX 1x11 drivetrain, Rockshox Pike RC Solo Air fork, KS dropper seatpost, 27.5X3.0 / 29X2.6 max tire size.
The only possible negative that I can spot is the wheel standard.
On this page:
https://www.genesisbikes.co.uk/bike/tarn-20
the blurb states: "designed from the ground up around the new Boost axle standards"
but the spec list says:
Front Axle Type -15mm TA
Rear Axle Type - QR
I've emailed Genesis to clarify, but apparently there's a 2-week delay on replies!
So does anyone know if the Genesis Tarn 20 2019 has a 15mm front and QR rear or not?
Mine is the regular boost standard front and back. Live it, especially after upping the travel to 140mm.
The rear wheel lasted a year before dinging. I'm light and running plus tyres, so was surprised. Buy bad technique was partly to blame...
The sub SLX brakes were a disappointment, but Genesis warrantied them when the front failed and covered the cost of an upgrade to SLX.
Hi - I’ve got one of those it’s Boost front and rear, so 110x15 and 148x12.
Great price for it BTW!
Well spotted OP. The website should be updated shortly.
Thanks for the replies everyone!
I'm also considering a new Whyte 901 or second-hand 905/909 or the new Calibre Line 29 (only £800).
Any other similar models that I should take a look at?

Its not what you know it's who you know

Website looks updated now
I just sold a 2018 tarn 10. Great bike but i own too many. Its got decent geo, cracking paint scheme and had ok parts, bar the brakes which were the worst i have ever used (including rim brakes)
Regret selling but needed to go and its with a good mate now.
