yo guys, mate was out for a blast last night, gears all seem to be ok in general, apart from jumping in the rear cogs and it goes from 7th gear to 9th on the back even though when he clicks the shifters he has 2 more gears left to shift (its already in the bottom cog on the 7th shifter gear), also it wont go into the 2nd largest cog on the back cogs it just skips to 3rd gear at all times on the back no matter how much adjustment on the barrel and no matter which cog on the front.....its struggling to go in the big chain ring on the front to unless he gets down the very smallest cogs on the back (though this could have something to do with a bent outer ring perhaps?)..is there any other adjustment to do on the left hand barrel?? ive only tried to adjust the right hand one for him (for the back cogs)

chain wear indicator - it doesnt slide into 1% but it does sit just shy of it, and it lands on .75% but doesnt go in as such, if i force it it will...does this sound like the chains on the last legs??? also had the cassette since december last year, so its almost 7-8 months old with a fair mount of use? just checking this is all feasable that its just worn chain and cassette???? what are your thoughts guys?

start by replacing the cables and go from there would be my advice. look at the park tool website for how-tos.

Cable tension and stop adjustment on both end, and straighten the chainring too.

Basically try re-setting the gears from scratch. Park et all do video guides IIRC?

Just cable tension then. Check out the video guides like I said, way easier than asking repeatedly on here.

If the cables are 2 months old they have probably stretched, adjust the barrel adjusters on the rear mech and it should sort its self out

thats the thing though guys, i have adjusted the barrel and to no avail, thats whats making me think its just the case of cassette and chain??

all the cables seem fine as it changes smoothly (apart from skipping gears, and it does tend to jump under load), just not on the correct gears as such.....

like said the cassette is 7 months old and had now running near the end of its 2nd chain?

sounds like a worn chain and cassette..but try resetting your gears..
drop to the smallest gear at front and rear...release your cables make sure shifter barrel adjusters are wound back in..then take up slack in cables and re-tighten...also try and check that the chain is the correct length

You need to adjust the cable tension way more than the barrel adjusters will allow, the cable may have slipped in the clamp or something. This is why you need to check out the video.

It's not chain wear.

worth a check that the hanger is straight and rear mech hasn't to much play
