[#1885206]

Hello all,
I'm going to have a bash at fitting front and rear derailleurs on my bike build at some point (hopefully) later this week.
Bit of a stupid question, but I need to pick the Stw collective mind-
how much tension (if any) do you need to put on the gear cables when you connect them to the derailleurs?
Just a little or do you need to pull hard 😯 as you tighten up the cable clamps?
Also, fit front or rear first?
Cheers

Just enough to take the slack out, you can use the adjusters on the rr mech (if it has one) & shifters to tune it up. SO turn them out at least one complete turn before you start.
Doesn't really make any difference if you do fr or rr first, but I usually do rr.

get thee down to the park tools website. Lots of useful guides in setting things up.
If you've never set up gear cables etc, go there first so you know what you're doing!
A rear mech in the spoke is not pretty or cheap!

As has been said, just enough tension to remove the slack. Also wind the barrel adjusters on the shifters all the way in (clockwise) so that if the cable stretches a bit you have plenty of adjustment left.
