I've got a new road bike to build up and already have a set of xtr cables. Will these work or are the ends different? I know that the brake ones are different but not sure on the gear side. Cheers for any help.

Thanks for that. I had in my mind they were the same, but didn't want to find out I was wrong half way through fitting.
