[Closed] Gear cable outers - any specific recommendations?

[#2015594]

Need to replace the outers (and inners) for my gear cables. Previously, I;ve just used whatever I could lay my hands on, but I was wondering if there are any specifics that might give a bit more life with the usual mechanical neglect my MTB suffers.

Cheers

shimano xtr off ebay for a little less than 20 quid for the full set. those little rubber things that it comes with seem to work a treat.

Shimano - the outer is all the same, larger diameter stuff is slightly better if you can find it.

Think you can buy them from wilkinsons for like £1.50 a set, inner and outer.

They were fitted on my bike when I got it. They're ace! I've had them on for just under a year. My bike getrs some serious hammer and they're still as smooth shifting as the day i picked it up. I'd say thats worth 30 squid. You won't get that with shimano cables fella 🙂

Ahh, go on!! No; I misread the title and thought you were asking for outer cable cutters.

I'd +1 for binners' suggestion. The first set of Gore (brake) cables I had on a bike lasted for over five years before I wrecked the inner sleeve in a spill. No cable system is as smooth and light in operation, and few will maintain their original performance for as long. Treat yourself...

Tell you what, I buy them, you fit them AND warranty that they'll shift smoothly after 12 months worth of mud caking my bike... 😀
