Am toying with the idea of getting a decent hardtail to contrast and complement my Maverick full-suss. Doesn't seem to be many reviews of the Big Sur online so any informed comments from the massiv would be gratefully received.

Hi BillMc

I've had a Big Sur for over 2 years now and think its a very good bike. Find it climbs pretty well and I have more confidence in descending. Its a 19" frame I've got and find it comfortable even on long runs, nice and stretched out. Only replaced the usual parts like the chain/ cassette. Other than that the frame is holding up well.

In my view very good bike and would buy another Gary Fisher Hardtail no problem at all.

Bought from Hardy Bikes in Cairneyhill.

Paul

Built one up from a new 08 frame. Chose it because I could go down a size (17.5") and still have a good reach. Very light but not ridden it much yet so don't know how strong it will be. Think the new ones are different geometry now.

I've got one - the 06 model with the carbon rear end. Can't talk highly enough of it. Works surprisingly well on a long day out and isn't just a race h/t.

There are never many reviews of it - but I dug this link out (from the Orange site as it contains a good P7 review) - a decent article containing a review on the model that I have if it's of interest....
