I really need some help. My Garmin Edge 800 is not being recognised by my computor and therefore I cannot do any planning but it works okay by itself and will charge via the USB. I have tried it on two computors and I have sent it to a company in the UK but they were unable to fix it or locate the fault. I need some kind of Garmin Guru. Any ideas?

Have you tried Garmin? They were very helpful when I messed up my 500 and sorted out a software problem with an old Nuvi I had.

Have you shut down and restarted either of the computers before trying it again? it's not unknown for USB devices not to be recognised when plugged in after un-plugging.

If you plug it in and go to "My Computer", so you see two new disk drives?

Quite a few people seem to be having trouble due to water getting in the USB port, make sure this isn't the case, a SMALL drop of WD40 may help displace any moisture.

Guys cheers.

I have tried numerous cables, restarting and just tried the Garmin plug-in but nothing works. I have tried talking to Garmin but nothing they suggested has solved the problem.

I really think I need to send it to someone who knows stuff.

Any chance you can try someone else's 800 on your PC?

Is it listed in Device manager?
If so, delete it, reboot and then plug the 800 back in

I think returning it to Garmin might be the only option. The only issue is it is out of warranty. I will drop them a line again and see what they say.

Try using safari or chrome as your browser.
Ie9 did this with my 605.
Hope that helps.

I have had to swap from Safari to Chrome on my Mac to get my Edge 305 to down load any routes and this only happened after they did some work on the web site a few weeks ago.

Druid , no. It comes up as USB device malfunction although occasionally it will work.

OK - in that case it's nowt to do with browser plug-ins and the like. I'd try going into Device Manager and deleting all traces of it from there to see if it will "take" a clean install.

However, it could well be a faulty connector, in which case Garmin will be your best shot. They are pretty good at doing cut-price replacements, even outwith warranty. However, the Edge 800 hasn't been out that long has it? How long since you bought it? I thought all electrical goods had to have a minimum of 24 months warranty now? Plus SOGA gives you some cover up to 6 years out if the goods are defective.

Update. Called Garmin the other day, they took some details and it appears that they will replace it free of charge. Have posted it off and will let you know what happens. Cheers for all of the advice. ย
