Any real world reviews on the 1030 CRC have them on offer at the moment but the reviews suggest they are buggy and a bit temperamental.

Halfords have them for £299 and if you have BC membership you could get another 10%

Mine's a little bit buggy. It'll stop communicating via bluetooth and requires a restart. it maybe does this once every few hundred miles - once in 10 rides or so on.

Aye Halfords also do 10% off for CTC members. Just remember you balaclava to avoid being recognised...

The 1030 is the best yet and I've had 705, 810, 1000 and now this.

They do, which is an nice extra saving, but it doesn't look as if they have any for home delivery (reserve & collect from stores only, at least with my postcode). CRC currently has some in stock for delivery so useful if your local Halfords is out.

If you use a map a lot then get a 1030 otherwise I would suggest just getting a wahoo or a smaller cheaper Garmin as the big screen for map usage is its only advantage. I would say the devices are good but the software Garmin use is absolutely awful a few months ago I "updated" my device but there was a bug which removed every single map in western europe.

I have a wahoo bolt at the moment and was looking to upgrade to the Garmin for the mapping side of it

If you dont need the advanced training type stuff, for mapping I have been really happy with the edge explore for loading a GPX and following it on OS maps.
Much cheaper and seems to give me everything I need

Garmin software is a bit rubbish but the 1030 is so good I find i don't use it that much. Can plan routes on Strava and send directly to 1030, can set up training plans, mapping and nav features are very good and large screen is useful to have lots of info on display.

If you need a longer battery life than the 20 hours Garmin claim, there's a link on the Barebones forum which discusses a battery which connects to the 5 pin adapter on the back of the 530,830 and 1030. These adapters are more robust than the crappy micro usb port so more suitable for long off road trips.

The problems I experienced with the 1030 over 18 months of ownership led me to sell it and buy a wahoo element roam. No doubting the hardware but the software is problematic, namely losing the link with smartphones, and apple laptops necessitating a reboot and inputting all settings again. The wahoo has in the last 3 months, proved faultless and a pleasure to own.

I bought one of the CRC offer Edge 1030's about 3 weeks ago and so far it has been faultless. (Upgraded from an Edge 520).
No problem setting it up or with connections to wifi, iPhone or sensors.
The map is very good and the big screen is amazing if like me you are long sighted.
