Hi All,

Had my garage  broken into last week and some bikes stolen.  Just looking to beef up security now.

Garage is brick with a only a side door. Good solid door with two good locks.  We have a remote alarm pir over the door.  Bastards got in by peeling the corner of the wooden felted roof back.  Police said that they had not seen this before. The also ripped the sensors off the outside PIR lights so the would not go off.

Roof is now fixed and not going anywhere.

Will be installing CCTV- any recommendations

any other ideas ???  Lock bikes in garage??  Recomendation on locks/ground anchors.

thanks

Additional frame and an extra grille door? either in or outside garage depending on which way the existing door opens.

Ground anchor and either an Almax or Pragmasis 19mm or 22mm chains. These cannot be bolt cropped. However, oi they really want your bikes they will get them, battery powered grinders will get through these chains, but the more effort you make it the less likely they will be to attempt to take them.

Blimey, that's committed

Sorry you had your bikes nicked, I'd go with a ground anchor and big chains. Arlo cameras would also work well for you, entirely wirefree (battery powered and connected to wifi)

As above: ground anchor, almax & the best padlocks you can get!

There's a padlock they sell with Almax chains that they recommend, go with that one.

How come the alarm didn’t scare them off? Mine goes off after 4 seconds.

Be conscious of how they knew you had bikes. Ie kids/opportunists wouldn’t peel back a roof surly?

were you followed, do you clean bikes, leave them on view ?

Personaly I don’t do anything to change the outside of my garage I’m happy that it looks normal rather than attract attention.

personaly I don’t bother with locks because it’s still worth sawing through the frame etc it’s all still worth a bit.

my bikes can’t be seen inside the garage they are hidden in plain site

https://www.screwfix.com/p/smith-locke-ground-wall-anchor-black-large-160mm/8955p

screwfix have the ground anchor reduced to £3.99, just need a good hammer action drill, big allen key and a hammer to knock in the ball bearings

Sorry to hear about that. Since I got my Cannondale nicked from the shed (they took the screws off the door hinges) I've had a large dog and decide that if they were going to get in, I'd give something to think about.

On that basis I've now got two old, heavy, steel bikes that I D-Lock my other bikes to. I figure that if someone breaks in they're either going to have to spend a lot of time cutting, or make the doorway larger in order to get a mass of metal out of the door. And if they do the latter, good luck with getting that lot into a van.

Either way it will take time and make noise. Hopefully enough of the latter to wake up my lab/collie cross who has a good pair of lungs on her. Enough to wake me anyway. Which I guess is where things would get really interesting (3 battery maglite is my investigatory tool of choice, given it'd almost certainly be dark..)

Appreciate that the dog option isn't open to everyone, but it makes a hell of a difference..
