Kona Major Jake came FSA Gossimer cranks and an FSA Mega Exo bb. The bearing cups were marked BB6000. New bb needed and lbs sell me a Mega Exo but marked with BB8060 which i was advised was just a better version of the 6000
New bb has an additional inner metal sleeve that slides over the crank axle in addition to the sealed outertube . All fitted but the cranks seem draggey as if the inner sleeve is placing too much preload on the bearing inner races.
Can i ditch the inner sleeve, the bb6000 didn't have one or have i just been flogged the wrong bb.
There are 2 different mega exo series BB's.One for carbon chainsets (slk kforce)and one for ali (gossamer). Why does that matter you ask?The carbon chainsets have slightly wider spacing/thicker cups so if you use them on fsa ali chainsets you'll over preload them (and have stiff turning cranks) when you tighten the cranks on.
It took me about 4 hours of swearing to find this out ๐ฟ
Arse. I knew deviating from sqr taper bbs would lead to trouble.
