Can somebody help please, I cannot for the life of me get the wire tension right on fitting a new front mech...I drop the chain into smallest front ring and smallest back ring...pull on the front inner cable nice and tight...then clamp it in.....I then shift up into middle ring and it goes up first time, but after that I go through the rear gears and they alk work....I then drop back down to granny and try to go up to middle again and it doesn't want to shift back upto middle?

I backed off the barrel adjusted two full turns before securing the cable?

I have done it before sometimes by luck sometimes by help from others but would like to combat it myself

small front, biggest rear. set low limit without the cable attached, such that chain just misses inner plates of mech. then attach cable just with hand tension. shift up to middle in front, still with rear on biggest and use barrel adjuster to index the mech such that you are only just not getting rub on inner plate

Have you aligned the mech properly, when in the middle ring position the outside of the cage should be parallel with the big ring. Shimano mechs used to come with a spacer for holding the mech in position while setting this.

Cheers guys so it seems I set the tension in the wrong gearing? Would this make sense as to why It's not shifting upto middle ring?

Think It's aligned pretty much ok, not really had any front shifting issues prior to this new cable, it alk worked fine before
