Rockshox instructions are crap so reassurrance needed.

Once I have inserted the 'tube' through the fork and into the other fork leg, how tightly does it need to be threaded in? I have done it hand tight, then inserted the QR skewer and done that up as normal before closing.

Is that right?

I thought the instructions were that the lever should leave "an impression" in your hand when doing it up.

Pretty much as tight as mine ever is.

There's a video on Youtube about it if you do a quick search

Thanks. Druid, the QR bit I understand, it's the tube/axle that worries me.

sorry for slight hijack....but I am new to these maxle things. When I first got mine I don't think I was screwing it quite as tight as it could go but there was no play from front wheel. Now I have put tyres on and screwed the maxle in as far as it can go I am sure I can feel ever such slight play from the front wheel. It's not headset, caliper or rotor. As yet it's not been ridden....anyone else had such problems?

? your supposed to have the QR in and use that to tighten it up, general rule of thumb is tighten it firmly using hand strength, ie. not putting your arm into it.

....hopefully not fingerbike, it's a brand new Hope Pro2, admittedly the ends of the hub where you put the maxle through seem to have a lot of play but these are just guides rather than anything structural aren't they?

Right now I'm video trained.

"I've taken the levver and schwing!, it's in". Classic yank.

In my defence the instructions I got were for the non-360 maxle.

Thanks.

I have to bash the bearings in a bit on my Hope II's as they had some play with the maxle. After a few wacks with the hammer they still have a wee bit of play but nothing much.
