Tis the holiday season for reals. Benji has stepped out to do fun things with the fam, and despite the fact he provided all the usual fun and new gear stuff below, he didn't write this bit. He just left the word 'yeh' sitting here. So you get me running the intro this week. In this week's edition of FGF we have POC gear, artistic shots of goods from Hope, a candidate for ridiculous product name of the week from Voodoo and even some actual trails. Oh and issue 168 has landed with us at the office so if you…

That Voodoo looks really quite tidy. If I had some jumps near me (and I needed that n+1), I'd be sorely tempted.

Folding scythes are even better as you can just chuck it in a backpack. They are also apparently just as terrifying to unexpected trail runners….

"I tackle an offroad 25 miler ON FOOT. Ultra marathons are..." Sorry Mark - good luck with the run, but to be clear: 25 miles is not an *Ultra* marathon. It's not even a full Marathon...

Woo-hoo! I think that's six TOTW's for me now. At some point you're going to have let me do a supermarket-sweep-style dash around the merch warehouse cupboard

Im very over, overgrown trails, my local spot has gone fern mad, some of the lesser ridden trails are impassable/ dangerous atm, that said theres no way im popping a small scythe in my hip belt!

I want that pump track bike so bad- but frequency of use would be low - and I reckon theyll sell well in halfords

Folding scythe? How about a review of forestry mulchers? Really get that stuff cut back.

You are quite correct. This is a training event for the Windermere Lap I've rashly entered again in September. That's a proper ultra at 49 miles. It broke me last year at mile 32.

Good luck with that too! I ran The Lap a couple of years ago and loved it, though had knee problems late on - limped home just under 15hrs. I'm coaching a mate towards this year's as well, so I might see you in passing there.

Mile 32 on the September route would be Loughrigg? The descent there was what kicked my knee issues off, a couple of slips on wet grass. Latterbarrow after it was also a bit steeper than I thought it was!

So that POC helmet - do they recommend replacing it every 3 years?

POC make some lovely looking helmets but I have never tried one on that wasn't massively uncomfortable. I know a few other folks that feel the same. I get on fine with other brands, off the top of my head I've had Giro, Fox, Oakley and Troy Lee in the last while. Not sure what it is, but the POC ones are all just wrong

I've found the POC helmets suit people with round lego heads.

That Voodoo is lovely, I have no need for it, but that hasn't stopped me having a good look at it....

I'll test ride the POC helmet if you need a volunteer. I've just found myself in need of a new helmet.

Glad someone is releasing a good priced DJ bike again, I don’t think there’s been a good one since Calibre stopped the Astronut a fair few years ago. They don’t need to be fancy or have posh parts, just stuff that works and a frame worth upgrading as they parts wear out.

Spear and Jackson website has a dealer locator - 35 stockists listed in Glasgow to save you needing to spend money with those c***s at Amazon.
