I recently cleaned my cassette, perhaps a bit over enthusiastically, using liberal amounts of gunk.it now slips badly-could this be related?is it any good squirting in loads of WD40?

slipping usually means pawls are sticking. Not sure if gunk would have done this or got in. WD40 will help in the short term, likely to "go" after water gets in.

Had the same problem, lots of wd40 and still slipping,so off to a nationalcycle chain, new free hub about25 upwards.

So look on the web,Parker international,new hub,free wheel and a skewer,ball bearings,long reach 10 mm allen key,19 quid,delivered.

Well worth it and 7 quid cheaper than just the free hub.

I dont think all shimano freehubs are interchangeable, you need to know the hub number off your hub before ordering a new un.

Ive just finished fitting a new freehub to an XT hub, it was £21.50 off chainreactioncycles. Easy to fit yourself aswell, only tools needed is a 10mm allen key and some grease
