On a recent ride I somehow managed to knock the ferule off my rear mech cable. Over the remainder of the ride the cable has fully frayed.
Does anyone have any good looking solutions to tidy it up? It's functions just fine so don't really want to go to the bother of installing a new cable. I have a few ferules lying around.
Thanks
Duct tape FTW surely?
Pretty sure half my cable ends end up that way and it stops them injecting me with cat AIDs.
If it's frayed all the way back to the bolt then all you can really do is cut it off flush.
Trying to wind the frayed ends back together so you can slip a ferrule over them just leads to lots of small holes in your fingers.
If you can "kind of" wind them together - I like the soldered end solution rather than ferrules.....
Sometimes they twist back together. Twist as much as you can, trim off whats left. Superglue or a dot of araldite can hold it together
I've used Heat Shrink sleeving in the past.
Get some that shrinks down to a size smaller than the cable diameter, slip it over the frayed section and heat until shrunk.
You can get transparent sleeving which stops it standing out - if you prefer that.
It's a cable end, the ferrule is the bit that goes on the end of the outer cable.
I'd just cut it flush if it won't wind up again.
Thanks all.
