just built up this:

[img] [/img]

which is a 27.5 BFe with a Jones fork and some nice big tyres on it. Anyone else love a frankenbike?

Needs some weird shaped bars for the full effect.

Yes, I'm putting dual crowns on my enduro bike. Granted the Supreme SX has a downhill bikes front and rear end, with the travel cut down and a steepened and lengthened seat tube.

The other day on either a thread on here or a feature I thought I saw a gravel bike with downhill forks on it.

Eventually found a pic showing it was a lefty fork.

Maybe inspiration for someone?

I did the weird bars thing. Don’t feel they really worked with the longer reach. Like this it works brilliantly.

I used to ride a rigid 456-9 in the depths of winter.

On one 456 with a rigid (26r) fork and 29" front wheel. Gave a similar geometry to a sagged 140mm fork but very low maintenance and more mud clearance.

I may build it up again if the weather goes to pot or maybe I'll just get a SS 29r...

Love it, exactly the sort of thing I'm trying to finish building at the moment. Mine's a Genesis High Latitude LT, Singular Gryphon forks, with a 650b out back and 29er up front, both 2.6", 150mm dropper with an under seat lever thing.

Clearance is only about 8mm either side at the back though, even after giving the Nobby Nic a little trim... And I'd really like a Trailblazer or something.

I have weird bars, so beat you on that small front, but your forks are sweet...

What are you running in the back of the BFe and how snug is it?

It’s a riddler out back 2.5 I think. Tried it with a pair of dirt wizards, but the 29er up front was too tight and the rear made it too slow.

The only reason I’ve managed to do this is because I cracked my Jones, although I had that for nearly 10 years and didn’t baby it.

Was hoping the suggestion of a gravel bike with DH forks on it might inspire someone to build one 😉

I'm thinking of doing this with my SS Rigid Inbred. How did it ride?

Some fun bikes being posted!  Not really frankenbikes though, are they?  There needs to be a bit of shame involved.  Like discovering that you can get 700c wheels with road tyres into a downhill frame that takes big tyres.  Now, that is more the thing.

And, I've been clean for over a year.  Building frankenbikes can get a little out of control.

@hardtailonly

It rode surprisingly well. I've not ridden that setup for a while but it just felt right. Reasonably slack head angle, slightly bigger contact patch and slightly higher front end.

If you've got the bits (or can borrow them) then worth a trial.

I think I originally tried it because I'd borrowed the suspension forks out of my hardtail for another project.

What about this gem from psychle, erstwhile of this parish. (Is he still about?)

20mm bolt through triple clamps that are lighter than most 'normal' forks on a hard-core hardtail. With a Hammerschmidt. On slicks.

Got for form for this kind of (silly) thing...

Most recent is this Surly mash-up. V1 Instigator with Krampus forks, 27.5 wheel shoehorned into the frame and a 3" tyre on the front.

And the beauty that was the drop-handlebarred, softail, monstercross. Even the brakes were Frankensteins - Magura HS66 levers mixed with Louise calipers.

Bet epicyclo wins this thread…

I'm going to restrain myself and just offer this - built up specially for the SSUK 9 years ago:

It's an assemblage of all my worst or oddest purchases which were lurking forgotten in my attic.

I named it the Penance Ex-attic. I think you can work out why it was named that.

It was a very bad idea... 🙂
