Mate, I tried to get a frame stripped and polished by Argos in Bristol, they advised against it as it may become corroded easily, and a few other reasons I can't remember - bottom line was I took their word for it as they know their stuff, on the whole.

It may dep on what alloy your frame is, dunno...

Depends whats under the apple green really, alloy would be fine, steel likely to rust. Alloy would need regular polishing unless lacquered.

Aluminium corrodes almost instantly, so within a minute or so of being exposed it will have the finish it's always going to have. This doesn't take into account any scuffs, wear from clothing or marks caused by sweat dripping onto it, all of which will fade the finish over time. The more polishing the metal gets, the more resistant to fade it will be. A mirror-style finish will need almost exactly the same amount/type of upkeep as a painted/clearcoated frame. That said, small scuffs can be removed easily, making a polished finish easier to maintain than a painted one.

A fully mirror-polished FS frame is a good day's work, at least.

Seatposts, 'bars, cranks and stems are frequently bare aluminium and don't suffer from excessive corrosion.
Or are they not really bare ? Is there some sort of laquer or other coating on them ?
Couldn't a frame be coated the same way ?
