Looking to upgrade my Genesis Croix de Fer steel frame for something a bit faster and lighter. Bike is mainly used for on/off road touring and as a winter road bike.
Cross frames such as Kinesis Pro 6 look fine but quite interested in a titanuim for durability and comfort.
Anyone bought one of those "cheap" J&L or similar frames from eBay ?
Would consider a 29er frame also but seems impossible to get one with disc and rack mounts..

Norco threshold?

One of these obviously. Made out of steel an all so it should last. http://www.shandcycles.com/frames/
Is that and Amazon scotroutes?
Aye.
I did LeJog with it, I've toured with it and I sometimes run it with 35mm tyres as a "CX-alike". Forks are Kinesis DC-19s but there are others available.

Norco only seems to come as complete bike
Looks spot on.. Tempted by one of those or the new Kinesis ATR Tripster (although info a bit sparse on price and availability)
Tripster is a good option. I'd have one of them!
What the new ti one?
If I didn't already have the Amazon it would be a very close call regarding which to buy. Prices look to be almost the same too.
Spa Cycles titanium Tourer, Roughstuff or Audax?
They are getting stupidly good reviews.

No disks though?
A bit off the wall but might work....

No disks though?
Good point!
I'd forgotten about that.
Would need some adapter set up for rack like this I guess...
Axiom racks
Mine takes a Topeak Super Tourist DX with no fiddling around.
The point of those Axiom racks is using them with bikes with short chain stays - road bikes and some MTBs. It moves the load backwards - if you are a taller chap with bigger feet it stops you're heals catching on the panniers. I use one on an old Giant OCR where the stays are so short the tyre has worn a groove in the front mech band, that combined with size 13 feet makes panniers a fankle. You wouldn't need them so much for a touring or cross frame.
So have narrowed down to Kinesis Pro6 or ATR Tripster ti......
So final thought....is it worth to the extra grand for the ti?
Kaffenback?
Wouldn't be an upgrade over the genesis CdF
croix de fer, kaffenback & the vaya (which i've got) are all similar weights. I doubt that much off the shelf steel is significantly lighter.
You need to be looking at other materials. that said you'll probably loose more in other places...

Difficult one.
I bought an El Mariachi frame recently and it was £1,000 difference between the steel and the Ti. I bought the steel on the basis that £1,000 would pay for a nice holiday somewhere that I could actually use the thing 🙂
However, I still lust after the Ti version. I do like my Ti.

Fargo Ti?
I have the basic steel one which is fab but too heavy for you. The Ti one must be a fair bit lighter. Designed as an offroad capable tourer so should fit the bill.
Pricey though but then all Ti framers are.
Thanks for everyone's inputs - Kenesis Tripster ATR ti ordered!
Any thoughts on how to tell the wife 😉
