Anyone carried out an upper replacement on Fox forks? Can you buy the uppers seperately? having done full seal and oil changes on my Floats before can't see any extra difficulty in changing the uppers, am I missing anything?

Mojo can supply the upper crown assy Mark, but the cost (IIRC) is in the order of £150+. I don't know if they will just sell the upers separtately with out a service cost ..

Uppers for my 36's are £180 and Mojo wanted about £90 to service on top so best part of £300.

Mick - mojo quoted £119 for new uppers plus £89 to service and fit plus postage

fivespot - no play evident when checked according to Fox instructions so bushes should be ok

It's very simple to do and requires no special tools.

Just remove the lowers, remove top caps, take damper unit/spring assembly out and place into new uppers. You will have to cycle out the old damper fluid from the damper rod, at least i did as i was using new fluid.

You may have to faff about with a blanking disc located at the bottom of your existing spring side stanchion, it's held in with a circlip type thingy!

That was the only part that was a bugger to do.

Nick.

What does this disc do? If it is part of the air spring assembly why would you need to remove it?

votchy - it's 'attached' to the bottom of the stanchion so the spring has somethign to press against. needs removing and transferring to new one if the new one doesn't come with one.

yep - all very easy to do as mentioned, a seal and oil change and you're already most of the way there. There are comprehensive dissaembly instructions on the Fox website - you just need to go one step further and as mentioned, remove the little spring clip thing in the bottom of one of the stanchion legs.

It's a pain in the arse first time, but once you get the knack, it's not too bad. It's not like a proper circlip where you can use circlip pliers- it's like a coiled spring steel washer. A small electrical screwdriver is your friend for removing it - you just need to lift one end up and out of the groove, and then follow the rest of the spring with the screwdriver to lever it out.

so are we saying you can't just buy the uppers? That's really bad practise on Mojo's part! It's one thing to pay through the nose for parts but to be held to a ransom of a service is taking the proverbial.
