bought a used pair of these from one here a few weeks ago. Been awsome so far and for being a few years old are in awsome condition and run sweet. I have done a few rides in them (up to 30miles on their first outing) and after a bit of fiddling and fine tuning starting to get the ride perfect. I have felt that the repound is a bit quick and when I am trying to adjust this the dial on the bottom of the shock is really stiff and only eventualy turns 90 degrees. When it is turning it sounds a bit gritty.
Shocks have never been serviced but dont seem to have done much, so do I just need to get them serviced (well think I'll just pay the extra and get em PUSH'd) or does it sound like the dial needs a clean underneath.
Realised I missed a bit at the bottom of this. If I need to clean behind rebound Dial can this be taken off??
Yes, if you visit the fox website and look at the manual you'll see the rebound dials come off (the ones on the bottom of the fork right?) when you change the seals so if you wanted to clean then you should be fine to invert the forks and take them off... please read the manual tho as i am new to the talas things... just got a pair myself!
Thanks Dr_adams.
Just read the fox website for the 2006/2007 forks I have and it says that the rebound is at the top of the fork. Have I been looking at teh wrong thing. I think I only have 2 dials at the top but the online guide says I should have 3. Will need to look at this when I go home. Now I'm totally confussed. It says the dial on the bottom is the Blow off valve adjustmenty.
this has just confussed me even more. Might need to get a hold of the guy that sold me them for tuning tips. They are OEM shocks from a 2007 Scott Genius, does this mean anything to anyone??
On RLC the red knob is for rebound, around that is a blue ring with a lever, this is for lockout. Underneath the lockout is a serrated blue ring, this controls the slow speed compression(pedal bob, landing from jumps etc, not sharp hits). The blue knob at the base of the fork alters the threshold that the lockout safety valve operates at. Hope this helps you.
Yeah it does thanks IU'm having a play about with it as we speak. I hope the other half doesn't come back, she'll kill me if she sees the bike in the living room lol
Just sat and worked out how to set all the levels and preasure. Set all to factory setting and will take it from there.
Coatesy. You seem quite knowledgable about this. I've got a similar set(and for one thing always leave rebound in the middle, cos I know no better). I also haven't got a clue when I should be using the compression adjustment - can you enlighten me?

Personally, i'd set the rebound about 2 or 3 clicks from full slow as a starting point, it seems to give a more controlled action that way. Wind it on until you feel it just slowing down the return when you bounce it, back it off one click and you'll be in the ballpark.
Compressionwise i'd follow a similar guideline, wind it on until you feel it slowing the stroke and back it off a click.
I'm no suspension expert, and everybody will want something different from their suspension, but it should be a good point to work from.Don't be afraid to go back and ride a rough section a few times to find what effect a click or two has on the ride.
