Good news. I didn't know Eddy's bike was missing, but heavily modded Jekyll - he was first I thought of!

Further update regarding Crashtestmonkey he's been a right superhero this week .. he saved a bird trapped in our bird feeder by using wire cutters to let the wee baby escape!

Hereo's don't just wear capes 😉

Seriously though great news regarding Eddie getting his bike back. Happy riding all x

Our front counter stays open 'til 10pm, and I'm back in tomorrow from 8am so they should be re-united in good time.

At the risk of finger-wagging-teacher-mode, it's easier to identify recovered bikes if you report them as stolen (I think Eddie had decided not to "waste our time" with what he thought would be a futile exercise) and get them on bikeregister.com (which will help if your bike turns up in another force area). His comprehensive Flickr page should help with confirming ownership. Although I now have the best excuse for having a STW tab open when I'm doing admin 😉

I've actually taken Sunday off to go riding, so if I puncture, crash or ride through dog poo then there's no bloody karma...

Hooray.

While you're in nagging mode, give him a lecture about using a lock before you let him have it back.

jonnyboi, I think the thief did that...

At least it's got lights on it- Sod's Law would be him riding away from the nick with a smile on his face and getting caught and fined in the annual clock-change bike-lights crackdown 100 yards away 😆

What excellent news!

[you've bought another bike already though haven't you...]

Was the bike not locked then?

Still with the powerkites ? sheesh ; rolls eyes Will it ever end?

Hants plod run a recovery scheme where you register the frame number to help them re - unite high end bikes with their rightful owners following theft.

Well done for getting it back CTM .- you win the internet for today.

I just spotted this thread having seen Eddies other one. Thought 'hang about a minute' then saw how many replies which kinda gave it away.

As someone who has suffered from mental health problems, albeit minor ones, it's swings and roundabouts.. Lots of ups and downs..

This is one of those ups.. And I'm well chuffed for you.

When you look past the constant bickering on here, this place is sometimes awesome..

Great news! I was going to say on the original thread not to give up hope, but I did not expect this.

I would not take my eye off it next time, I’d be so paranoid of losing it again.

Great news.

I think that's the second bike recovered in the last 6 months or so after posted here.

And a good excuse for blinging your bike to make it identifiable

I've had mine registered with GMP and marked with a UV paint serial number.

most if not all forces have access to immobilise.com and bikeregister.com and should be checking these whenever a bike is recovered - I believe our front counter staff (who manage 'found' property) did in this case. The advantage is it's national - if your bike registered in your home force turns up somewhere covered by a different force (which could be just a few miles away) then it won't be on their systems. We have 43 forces and historically struggled to share information that would have prevented murders let alone identify stolen bikes (the Bichard Enquiry after Soham led to national intel sharing systems, we are nowhere near a national force or national crime property register, that gap is filled by immobilise and bikeregister).

Well the bike is pretty muddy now 🙂 and I'm so happy (apart from the sodding creaky BB that I'd forgotten about 👿 ).

So to try to avoid this happening again there are some things I need to do:
1 Don't assume that my quiet village is theif proof even at 6:30om.
2 If I've been out for a couple of hours riding I won't have my Hiplok with me so don't rely on a little cable 'shop lock' for security, just cycle the 300yds past the pub, put the bike away at home and walk back for a beer.
3 Use BikeRegister. And on that point has anyone applied the UV Covert kit? Is it easy enough?

Right, time to clean the bike and then get it a bit less clean before locking it away at work. Thanks to all who offered congratulations and all those who helped get me in touch with CTM. I hope he has a good day riding.

Great news!

I started to register my bikes with one of the websites but stopped when I realised if it was ever hacked it would provide a dream shopping list for any would be thief, complete with number and type of your bikes, your address and contact details!

Can remember which site* it was exactly but I stopped at the point it asked for my home address...

However, if a bike was ever stolen I have the details and pics ready to go. Otherwise I'm keeping that information off the web as best I can

Edit: *might have been the bike register

Update time.
Just spent a couple of hours drinking in my local with the guy who found my bike and handed it in. He lives about 400yd from me but we've never spoken. Turns out he's a biker and his other half's dad has access to a lot of prime forest that he rides.
Winner. Chrismas sorted etc.
