Did that trail last night, its a lot of fun and a lot more technical than I'd have imagined an XC course to be.
There was a trail running off it which didn't seem to be on the map, with a sign designating it a black trail called Blue Crane bombhole - is that a new trail that is being developed or was a it a special feature of the 10 Under course?
Nothing really bombholey on the unmapped 10UTB stuff. I really like the WC route, it's short and pretty damn climbey but there's some brilliant stuff in there. Also, if you do it from the west ie start at the north face car park you can cut out the race-route climbing (aaargh, Lazy K, aargh) and throw in Nessie as well with just a wee bit of extra fireroad, or if you start from nevis range there's no reason not to do the start of the 10UTB course and double back up the road from the market. There's not as much riding as they advertise but the good stuff's lovely.
Thanks Northwind
Maybe its a new trail they're developing? next time I'll ride down it and give it a try.
Blue Crane is actually one of the original trails in the Nevis Range area and is great to ride.
Cool, I never found that one. Whereabout is it? I got the feeling when I was up there the first time that I was missing a lot of good stuff, little interesting trailheads everywhere, especially over towards Nessie
As you head up the last climb to the very top of the trail, just before you turn off onto the singletrack bit there is a trail that drops off down to the right which is the blue crane
i can give more detailed directions if that's not clear,
So just on the way up to the great glen rollercoaster is it? I'll definately need to check that out...
Blue Crane is indeed the original. I still have two scars from British XC champs 2004 from there (leg one in practice, face one in the race)
Interesting drop-off at the bottom, then the bomb holes. Takes you to the top of Nessie eventually, I find that bit quite scary. Also not in the curent course, and neither is hole in the wall which is a shame. New course is much tamer.

Finally got round to riding this on Friday evening, what an awesome trail ๐ had a lot of fun riding it and will be doing it again this evening. I got a bit confused as to where it ended as I'm still finding my bearings reound there, but it turned out I was on the 10under route, a wee bit before the climb up to the top of the fun descent bit (can't remember the name but its the bit before nessie)
I'm starting to explore the unmarked trails round there now, and so far its great ๐
