Having no fork-oil yesterday and wanting to service my X-Fusion Hi-lo dropper Ive used Slick 50 power-steering fluid which is essentially ATF oil. Viscosity seems pretty much the same.
Havent tested yet as i need to locate my shock pump.

Will i die?

My bet is you will live for another 43 years. No idea about your oil tho, sorry..

DO NOT DO THAT! GET IT OUT OF YOUR POST ASAP! Power steering fluid is highly combustible under compression, which could result in the post exploding and you with a saddle lodged somewhere in your intestines.

Maybe.

Well, probably not.

Honestly, I've no idea, but this is STW so knowledge is not really a pre-requisite of a response.

Tbh, it'll probably be reet. Might damage some rubber seals, maybe? But you'll probably not die.

i have a deore brake which has worked perfectly on 3in1 oil for years.
i have used ep80 gear oil to fill my ancient rock shox toras, they work, about as well as they did when new. {ie: not very well}

I used engine oil for old camper vans in a set of Rockshox Dukes and had no problems
