[#12103822]

I've got some forks where the bushes have scored the stantions lower down in the leg. They seem to have become very tight (even though the fork has worked fine for years). No idea what caused this but there we go. I sent them off to be serviced and they identified the problem and said there was nothing they could do.

I've read about 'burnishing' bushes to widen them slightly and make sure they are perfectly round.

Anyone know anywhere that does this?

TF Tuned offer bushing re-sizing even on brand new forks if they are tight from the factory, I'd ring them (always ring with TF, much better than using the website, as you get to speak directly to the techs in the workshop).

You push a very slightly oversized die through the fork bushing

You can see it being done at the end of this video, about 14min

Of they used to work but now don't, it's possible burnishing isn't going to help. What forks are they? I believe modern Rockshox are bonded in but some people have had them some loose. This causes them to feel tight when they didn't before.

If the stanchions were that damaged, there's a pretty high chance that the bushings are also damaged- they last pretty much forever if the fork's in good shape but once you add debris and worn surfaces they can wear pretty quickly.

If a suspension pro says "there's nothing they can do" I'd want to know more- are they saying they're too damaged? Are they not replacable? Any decent suspension place should basically be able to do the works- bushings, burnishing, etc but not all can, some are basically kwik fit services rather than actual repairers.

Can you post a picture of the stachions?

I guess its the coil side stanchion thats causing the binding. The negative plate on the stanchion does in most cases cause some flaring of the stanchion causing it to be tight in the bushing until it passes this point.
