What sort of gearing should I be looking at for the Forest of Dean if I go there with a single speed?

Thanks!

Just what's normal for you. Nothing too steep up or down.

My friend rode a singlespeed there, i thought we'd have to call out the air ambulance- get some gears on there!

I wore my lycra when I rode in the Forest of Dean.
Same gear as I wear everywhere else.

I saw MTG in the FoD; for goodness sake don't wear the same gear as him ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

I use 32:18 but then I'm over 50, over 16 stone, and over here.

Same as you'd run wherever you normally ride.

Run what you brung is the law.

I use 34:17 seems to be ok and I ride there quite often.
(It's 2:1, should use 32:16 but it's all I had in the shed !)

Ok, thanks!

I'll stick with my current 52" of single geared goodness!

I did the SSEC last year in the FOD and used 31 X 16. Fine...

I reckon you are all too low. I use 42/18 on my SS Cx. And thats 700c wheels. I can't pedal up the steeper down hills but I can do the FODCa trail ok. Surely with SS you are never going to have super low grannies so the odd push is inevitable. Equally I spin out on my gears.
I must admit to hating twiddling and standing on climbs.
I am a near 13 stone 5'6" slob with 2 knackered knees and a dodgy back.
Funnily enough my knees like the bigger gears. its spinning that screws them.
Anyway run whats there. Bung another free wheel if if you must.

Luke, the penny has just dropped and realised you're on a 29er, you'll be wanting 32:18 and not 32:16 then! Especially if you going to be following me;-)

Don't worry - I'm on 33:18 which is about the same as 2:1 on a kid's bike!

Sheldon - thanks again for taking us round the Forest of Dean. Had a great time.

I daren't put up a picture of any people for fear of falling foul of the A&A rules, and pictures of bikes have been done. So just a picture of some leaf litter. I think I'm safe with that:
