I might need a folding bike shortly, but I'm too poor for a Brompton so please please don't go on about them unless you want to sell me one for £250.

I'm looking on Halfords website and there are Carreras etc for £300-350, there's even an Apollo for £200. Anyone got any experience? It'd be doing 6 miles to the station and then probably 4 at the other end in London.

used market?

coworker got a nice (dutch?) 26er folding one recently, and i've seen similar in the local reclaimed bike charity. til then didnt consider you can get something without silly small wheels thats decent.

You should be able to pick up a Dahon second hand off gumtree or ebay .
A friend had one for the same type of station miles and said it was fine.

have a look at a second hand dahon or tern, that would work OK. Also heard the decathlon one is OK too

only one worth having is a Brompton... you should get one for 250 if you look around. the 3S model is best..

Even if it's in a bad way - the parts are cheap to replace if you're imaginative.

Sorry - just checked on eBay - no chance at 250!

What utter crap.

I used to do 4 miles a day on a single speed apollo which was fine but a bit spinny down hill. That cost me £20 I think.
I now have a Trek Navigator which is a £700 bike and it is brilliant. It cost me £50 as there are a few scrapes on it. It's faster than a Brompton and handles better, partly due to bigger wheels, folds quickly and there are no creaks or rattles.

Look around, there are bargains out there.
