Given the recent icy conditions I'm trying to stay off road for rides this coming weekend, is Verderers and Freeminers likely to be sketchy with patches of ice? I've only been there in dry or wet conditions before. Or does anyone have a good forest trail GPX (30ish miles) that pretty much stays all off road, all the gravel routes I've done there have quite a bit of on road transition sections.
I'm guessing Cafall & Twrch @ Cwmcarn would be worse...?
I can't answer with direct personal knowledge but yesterday my son rode trails north and south of Speech House Road = about about 32 miles and 6900 feet and his Strava comment was "running mint".
It has been pretty much perfect over Christmas and New Year but we're due for a major deluge tonight so that will change slightly. Will likely still be firm but greasy. Weekend just gone conditions were amazing if you could handle the cold.
It was still frozen this morning when I took the doggo out before work, but it started hammering down with rain at lunch & hasn’t stopped. Definitely not frozen any more, there is a river running down the road outside our house (forest track).
Looks like it’s going to rain all night, and now the temp is picking up & it looks pretty gross for the next 10 days. The dry weather over the Xmas break has long gone 😆
It will all be fine to ride, just very wet & muddy.
I ended up doing some forest trails on the gravel bike (sketchy in places with a lot of ice around, took it easy on road sections to) then Verderers (which was fine, couple of small patches of snow here and there but not really any ice, good to know it should be fine for XC MTB when it gets around freezing again).
