Never done it ,gonna fly to Thailand with Gulf with a stop over in Bahrain. Im gonna box and pad the bike up in a cardboard box a new bike would come in.What do you reckon ? I'm going for 3 months so need cash for other things and too tight to buy a proper bike bag/box ?

One off trips the cardboard box is fine just pack it right and be careful on the weight. You will need the local lingo for can I have a bike box for the way home.
Space the dropouts properly and make sure everything is wrapped up to avoid it damaging itself, rotors off and wrapped up. don't leave anything loose in the box incase it gets a hole in it. Possibly even putting the lot inside an old duvet cover/bag.
