I'm building a bike up for my wife. Although it's a fairly solid build in terms of components, most of her riding will be on towpaths and around town and she may not going to appreciate a set of flat pedals that rip her shoes to bits (plus I have spare flats if we go anywhere needing them). I saw these but does anyone have any other suggestions?
In traffic I would have thought they'd be safer for the average rider?
I'd avoid those flat ones you've seen for all but very gentle cycle path use, and then only in the dry. I've found plastic pedals like that to be lethal in the wet. Not grip at all. The Odyssey PC ones look like a good compromise between grip and not being too shoe-shreddy. Again, plastic, in the wet, tends to be bloody slippy.
I have relatively small feet for a bloke, size 7/8, and find DMR V8s to be a good size. I did have a pair of Shimano DX jobbies, but a mate's gelf has nicked them, cheeky cow! They're good, too. She certainly seems to think so! 😯
The v8's on my town bike chewed through the leather soles on my work shoes in minutes, rubber soles only!
