Sure It's been asked before but what fits like a 5.10, looks like a 5.10, grips like a 5.10 but isn't hydrophilic like a 5.10? Got a soaking on Sunday. Finally managed to dry the upper but the cardboard is still damp.

tevas dry quick but grip is a long way from a pair of 5:10's.

I'd heard they didn't dry all that quickly.

Sounds like they might be worth a look then. How much less grippy are they?

My shimano 41's are great- stiff (in the right place) and sticky soles, and they shed water and muck pretty well too. Drying times are same as my lightweight road shoes. Dead comfy too.

I had 5:10s, got the Tevas as a seocnd pair of shoes, ended up selling the 5 10s, They dry fairly quickly, they're lighter, more comfortable, and I haven't found them wanting for grip in any way.

Tried the 5.10 freeriders? I've got a pair and they're just like any skate trainer, but with 5.10 soles.

What are they like when they get a soaking though tinas? Do they take as long to dry as my impacts? With the weather as it is right now, I'm getting hacked off at a shoe that I can only wear one day in five.

5-10s with waterproof socks - job done.

I've never really had a problem with my 5.10s. I've got the old Rennie Impact Highs and they're actually pretty waterproof. When they do get wet I just stuff them with newspaper and they generally dry overnight.

I stuffed them with paper, three lots. That's how I got them this dry. The cardboard midsole just won't dry. I do wear waterproof socks in the wet but object to having to wear them in the dry because my shoes haven't dried.

I wore them for a pissing wet day at Stainburn and they were good to wear on the way home (just avoided standing in puddles so they never soaked through) and driedout overnight just left on the porch windowsill (which actualy gets pretty warm). The midsole looks to be some kind of plastic fibre material not cardboard. Seems to be a lot less padding/material overall than impacts which probably helps. Lots of water repellant spray helps as well.

I'd never wear them wet day after day tough as I've SPD's on the singlespeed/wet weather bike and northwave winter boots which are worth their weight in gold. So they only have to deal with occasional wet days out.

Vans Gravel.

Have used 5.10 impacts (I & II), Shimano AM40s and the Gravels are the best combination of light weight, grip, feel and drying ability of them all.

Not used Tevas through.

Straitlines, Point Ones (with some of the long pins) and DMR Vaults on various bikes, zero problems on any of them.

I buy 2nd hand vans/Nike skate shoes off eBay for never more than £20 each.

Latest airwalks were £5 🙂

5.10's are such a crazy price, they have tapped into the "you are nobody unless you own 5.10s" very well.

I got mine for £50 from CRC, same price as any other skate style shoe. And having used other skate shoes (vans were good if a bit thin, etnies OK, elements better, airwalk were pap) I can honeslty say the 5.10's are a step above, they're unnececerily grippy!

Yep, they are grippy. The way they hold onto the pedals, or puddles, is second to none.

The newer style of freerider (stitched sole, not vulcanized) is less of a sponge than the other 5tens. Impacts have a bit of a rep for taking ages to dry and some kind of cardboardy inner. Freeriders have a techy insole, no cardboardiness and dry at a reasonable rate due to the synth upper.

I thought it was hype, got some out of curiosity and now feel quite attached to them. I use WahWahs, the combination is excellent.

Thae Baron's I've seen look to have a more leathery upper which could shed the mud better... is this the case???

Cheap Vans from Sports Direct with waffle grip on the bottom.

No way would i pay through the nose for 510's or any other "mtb" flats.

Agree with philwarren....i buy whatever flat soled skate shoes Sports Direct are knocking out for less than £20....they're going to get wet and muddy so i wont pay good money for a more fashionable name....at the moment i'm using a 5 year old pair of Adidas trainers which work remarkably well but then the sole says Goodyear rubber so that may have something to do with it.
