[Closed] Flared drop bars or just wider?

For off-road I'm thinking wider bars will provide better control

But if I'm not always in the drops would wider bars (say 46cm) be a better compromise than narrower bars with flared drops?

If you use the hoods a lot like me then I'd be interested if the flare puts the hoods at slightly strange angle.

for me the best bit is more control under braking with flared drops

The advantage of the flare is when you're grunting up a steep bit you don't bang your wrists on the tops.

That's probably more of a problem with a single speed though - but it's why I use flared drops.

I use Woodchippers with the hoods canted in line with the flare and find them extremely comfortable. I'd initially tried them for off-road use but they are great for long distance/duration too (e.g. 240 miles/24 hrs)

What gear shifters are you using with Woodchippers?

Those are the original (narrower) Woodchippers and that's a 13L Alpkit bag in the Revelate Harness

Thanks that's useful I think I've got the same well they're definitely Ultegra - looks like they would still be comfortable riding on the hoods canted in

I use the hoods all the time on my roadie but on my Fargo with a set of woodchippers, I'm never off the drops. Loads of control on tech terrain and loads of fun on singletrack descents.
For my money, flared all the way if you want to ride hard off-road.
