Want to fit a rack for some light touring to my cannondale caad9 cross bike. It has lower eyelets but as it's a wishbone it has no upper mounts, does have a threaded mount below wishbone (above tyre).
Looking at the Madison Summit rack and notice they sell a seatpost clamp with a small 'leg' under the bolt to fit the rack stays too - looks neat, anyone used one.
Any other ideas for a secure and tidy fit, the stays are well beefy so think the wraparound mounts will be a waste of time.
Cheers
I was wondering if you could get a Shimano Tourney front mech and use the steel band on clamp to go round the stay, and put a long bolt through the hole which the bolt that comes with it goes through, and use some selection of washers to fill any gaps. And take the front mech off the band clamp, obviously.
It might work something like this.
BoltHead...Washers...Rackmount...Washers...ClampHole...Washers...Rackmount...Washers...Nut-on-bolt-end.
It's an idea anyway.
Not sure if you can stil get them but Blackburn used to make a wishbone adaptor, or the alternative is a few companies out there are now doing seatclamps with built in threaded carrier mounts.
the seatclamp with carrier mounts is good and simple , as long as its not a biggish frame as the arms from the rack tend to have a long reach to connect , which leaves it a bit flexy , great on a smaller frame
i just bodged a band of light steel, wrapped around the tube with a piece of inner tube to protect frame . bolts and washers as above . works really well and was steadier on my 20` frame than the seatclamp idea
if it's fairly light touring then look at the Topeak Beam racks.
Seen it but way expensive at £55! can get a summit rack and seatclamp mount for £25 on sale (was £40).
Looks great through.
I needed a monostay adapter to fit a Blackburn rack to a wishbone/monostay Orange Clockwork. There's a Blackburn one that seems impossible to get and I eventually found one that I think was made by Nimrod at Edinburgh Bicycle in Manchester. However it's not listed on their website so it might be worth ringing the stores if they have any lying around.
