My first tri, a 70.3, is in 2 weeks. I'm OK with all the disciplines, am not going for some amazing time, I just want to do OK and enjoy it.
A concern is the weather - it's in Fortwilliam, so may be pretty cold. I don't think I CBA getting a singlet, I don't mind a few minutes getting changed into proper kit either, tho I suppose I can't be getting my tackle out as I change.
I guess having some decent savoury food at transition will be clever too - like a cold baked tattie etc?
Any other tips/ideas?
Complete change of clothing after the swim - there is a transition tent isn't there??
Big drink and food item after the swim as you'll be running low on energy
Food storage box on the bike to hold flapjacks, savoury stuff etc
Don't have just energy drinks on the bike, alternate water and energy drink, and keep eating the savoury stuff
Caffeine gel 10-15 mins before end of bike ride to give you a good start on the run
Copy whatever nutrition stuff you used for your marathon on the run
Moar advises plz
Alice band, matching clutch bag and red lippy FTW.
I did Bala half a couple of years ago in June, max temp was about 5c, the day before was really hot, this caught a few people out. I think 150 odd dnf'd. If it looks dodge get a decent base layer and windproof on for the bike and something warm on your hands. If the temps decent when you finish the swim you can at least leave it in transition, Although trying to get a base layer over a wet bodies a pain (I wore mine under my wetsuit)
As its a race, I'd treat myself to gels and bars, I never use them in training but trying to eat a sarnie on the bikes no fun when your trying to catch the guy in front.
Dont leave a gel in your shoe for the run, then finish the half marathon thinking whys my foot feel weird and later on realise out you forgot about the gel...
Talc powder will help with wet feet / bike shoes
I used to smear vasaline around the neck? of my shoes as usually run in no socks and it stops the chaffing a bit on your ankles.
