After some time and faffing I have just returned from a ride and finally can say my spd's feel good and both shoes/feet feel good and equally placed. The only problem I have is that my right foot seems to suffer from numb toes not from wearing the shoes when I walk around but only when I clip in and ride with them. The funny thing is that it’s not all my toes but rather the 3 in-between the big toe and small toe.

Any suggestions to solve this??

Dont say that i only just got the MP66 shoes and although they are white they very comfy and i prefer the trainer type shoe.

try the Spesh footbeds. I find Shimano shoes squash my toes together, whereas the Spesh shoes spread the foot out, and part of this is due to the footbed shape/contours.

Stiffer shoes might initially sound like the solution but stiff soles make walking/carrying the bike harder so have downsides too. I've gone from very stiff carbon soles (great on the bike, not so great off it) to less stiff soles and preferred the change overall.
